Coin Identification & Valuation Disclaimer
What a CoinScan result is, what it is not, and how much to rely on it.
Identification can be wrong or incomplete
CoinScan uses an AI vision model to read your photos and compares what it reads with records in the Numista catalogue. A result is the catalogue type that best fits what could be read from the photos. It can be wrong or incomplete: lighting, glare, wear, cleaning, corrosion, an unreadable date, a side that does not show the issuing country, and counterfeits all affect it.
Every result shows a confidence level. High needs at least two details read from the photos that agree with the catalogue record, a photo of the reverse and no contradiction. Medium means some details agree. Low (a possible match) means the result rests mostly on the AI's reading, or another catalogue type fits the photos equally well; CoinScan then says so and may ask for another photo. When the evidence is too weak, CoinScan says it could not identify the coin instead of guessing.
Details marked AI reading were read from your photo by the AI, not taken from the catalogue. Catalogue details come from Numista, are shown with attribution and may themselves contain errors.
No authentication or grading
A photo cannot show that a coin is genuine, its exact metal content or weight, or its condition grade. CoinScan does not authenticate or grade coins. Any condition you record is your own note, not a certified grade.
Values are information only
Where CoinScan shows a value, it is a melt value: the value of a coin's precious-metal content at a recent spot price, which ignores collector demand. CoinScan does not provide collector or market values. Any value shown or recorded in CoinScan is for information only. It is not a guaranteed selling price, an appraisal, an offer to buy, or financial advice.
What a coin is actually worth depends on its condition, authenticity, rarity, demand and market conditions. Before buying, selling, insuring or trading a coin, especially a valuable or rare one, confirm its identity and value with a qualified professional or a recognised grading and authentication service.
Your decisions
Any decision to buy, sell, trade or insure coins or bullion is made at your own discretion and risk. These points are also part of the Terms of Use.
